Petenia splendida (Red Bay Snook)

Petenia splendida, or the Red Bay Snook, is a large, predatory Central American cichlid known for its vibrant colors (ranging from silver-gray to deep red/gold), prominent extensible jaws for ambushing prey, and a laterally compressed body, growing up to 20 inches, thriving in slow-moving freshwater rivers and lakes in Mexico, Belize, and Guatemala.
