Discus fish, members of the Cichlidae family, are known for their distinctive disc-like, laterally compressed body shape, hence their name. They are highly prized in the aquarium hobby due to their vibrant colors and patterns, which can include shades of brown, orange, blue, and red, with various markings like vertical bars and horizontal stripes. These fish are native to the Amazon River basin and prefer slow-moving waters with dense vegetation.
