Geophagus taeniopareius (Striped Earth Eater)

Geophagus taeniopareius, the Striped Earth Eater, is a South American cichlid known for its slender, yellow body with distinct horizontal stripes, a unique dark eye-to-jawline stripe, and sand-sifting behavior, growing up to 6-8 inches, preferring fast-flowing, soft, acidic waters, and surprisingly more competitive than other Geophagus species, requiring ample space, high flow, and a sandy substrate.
