Geophagus megasema (Megasema Eartheater)

Geophagus megasema, the Megasema Eartheater, is a peaceful South American cichlid known for sifting sand, featuring a large, dark spot (hence "mega-sema") on its flank, shimmering scales, and requiring groups in soft, sandy tanks with hiding spots, growing to about 7 inches (18cm). They are omnivores, accepting pellets, frozen foods, and live foods, and exhibit interesting parental care as mouthbrooders, making them great community fish for intermediate aquarists.
